While you’re here for an oil change, we can check the major systems in your vehicle to ensure that everything is working as they should be. Bruce's Tire & Auto Service strives to be your go-to place for auto care.
Engine oil is designed to lubricate and help the continuous motion of your engine. However, like every system in your vehicle, engine oil won’t last forever. Through time and use, oil gathers debris from the engine and begins to break down.
The process that engine oil goes through to break down is precisely what it’s intended to do in your vehicle. As the oil gathers debris, it forces the oil filter to collect it. This keeps sludge out of your engine and lets it run with minimal friction.
Once the oil becomes saturated with engine sludge, it’s time for an oil change. Not changing your oil regularly can lead to poor engine performance or, if left unchanged over the long term, a potential breakdown.
Some of the signs you need an oil change service include:
While oil-change requirements vary by engine type and oil used, we recommend having an oil change about every 3,000 miles. Regular maintenance on your car or truck will be the best investment in the life of your vehicle. Remember, it is far better to maintain your vehicle than to need to repair it because you neglected its needs.
If you’re experiencing any symptoms of older oil, Bruce’s Tire & Auto Service is here to help. Let our team of experts fix you up with fresh oil every time you need an oil change in Livermore. Schedule an oil change today.
Your vehicle's particular oil change intervals will depend largely on the type of oil that your vehicle uses and your individual driving style. There are three main oil types, each of which offers a different level of protection and features different change intervals:
Conventional oil. This type of oil is refined crude oil that has sufficient properties to protect your engine from breakdown. Able to protect your engine up to temperatures of 275°F, this type of oil needs to be changed roughly every 3,000-5,000 miles.
Synthetic blend oil. This type of oil has a conventional oil base but uses synthetic additives for better protection. Used for many high-mileage vehicles, this type of oil typically needs to be changed every 5,000-7,500 miles.
Full synthetic oil. Full synthetic oil is made from crude oil, but its chemical properties are refined and altered to offer superior protection. This oil can withstand temperatures of up to 475º F and beyond, providing lasting protection. Full synthetic oil typically needs to be changed every 7,500-10,000 miles.
You’ve probably heard terms like “full-service oil change” and “complete oil change,” but do you know what this task entails? Here’s a step-by-step overview of what a full-service oil change consists of:
Step one. During your Livermore oil change, one of our ASE-certified mechanics will drive your vehicle onto a lift, where they will open the drain plug to your oil pan and allow your old oil to flow into a collection container.
Step two. As your oil drains, your old oil filter will be removed and replaced with a new one.
Step three. Once your oil has finished draining, your drain plug will be reinstalled, along with a new drain plug gasket, before your oil reservoir is refilled with either full synthetic or synthetic blend oil. It's important to note that we do not use conventional oil due to its low levels of protection. If your vehicle is designed to run on conventional oil, we can use a full synthetic or synthetic blend during your Livermore oil change. Both of these types of oil offer superior protection over conventional.
Step four. Once your oil change is complete, we will rotate your tires to promote even tire wear.
Step five. After your vehicle is brought down from the lift, we’ll perform a multipoint inspection before returning your vehicle to you.
It's certainly possible that your vehicle will run better after your Livermore oil change. Because old, dirty, and oxidized oil does not provide the lubrication needed for smooth operation, you may notice that your engine idles less smoothly than you're used to and achieves reduced fuel economy. After an oil change, you may observe that your engine idles more quietly, runs smoother, and even achieves the fuel economy you're used to.
However, it's important to note that an oil change service will not fix any mechanical issues that your vehicle may be experiencing. If you notice your vehicle has a check engine light on or is acting strangely, like stalling, hesitating, or being difficult to start, these may be telltale signs that your vehicle needs to be brought into our Livermore auto repair shop for service.
Unfortunately, in these cases, an oil change service will not remedy these symptoms. However, during your oil change in Livermore, you have access to Bruce’s Tire & Auto ASE-certified mechanics who can accurately diagnose your vehicle to determine exactly what is wrong. Because we are a full-service maintenance and repair center, we can perform any repair services your vehicle may need.
