How You Can Benefit from Tire Rotation Services

Our tire rotation services allow you to ensure premium performance and excellent tire longevity. Tires can wear differently depending on how they are positioned on your vehicle, the state of your suspension, and your driving style. If you have your tires rotated on a regular basis, the wear will be spread more evenly.

It's recommended that you have your tires rotated every 5,000–10,000 miles. When we rotate your tires, we'll also look for any signs of odd wear patterns or visible damage. Your tires will also be rotated according to the recommendation your vehicle's manufacturer provides.

What Our Tire Balancing Services Entail

Is your car vibrating on a regular basis? If so, the bumpy ride may be the result of poorly balanced tires. At our tire store, we offer comprehensive tire balancing services that involve removing all of your vehicle's wheels and balancing them with weights, if needed.

When tires become worn down, the distribution of weight can change, which may lead to the wheels becoming unbalanced. This could create noticeable vibrations or shaking when you're driving. Balancing your tires regularly allows you to maintain tire longevity and performance.

When You Should Have Your Tires Replaced

You should bring your vehicle to our tire shop whenever you feel like your tires aren't performing as well as you'd like. It's recommended that tires be replaced every 5–10 years. However, you can check the tread depth to determine if your tires should be replaced. Most new tires have a tread depth of around 10/32 of an inch.

Over time, the tread becomes worn down, which will reduce traction to the road, increase braking time, and make it more challenging to steer your car. If the tread depth is too shallow, it can be risky to drive your vehicle for lengthy distances or in inclement weather.

There are several ways you can check tread depth on your tires; the most common method is the penny test. If you have a penny, turn it upside down and then place it into the groove of the tread. Look directly at the penny to identify where the tread reaches President Lincoln's profile. If his entire head can be seen, the tread depth is too low. At this point, your tires should be replaced.

San Jose Tire Shop FAQs

Is it better to buy tires online or at a tire shop in San Jose?

At Bruce's Tire & Auto Service, you’ll enjoy the benefit of shopping for tires both on our website and directly at our tire shop in San Jose, CA. If you choose to use our online platform, you'll be able to input the exact year, make, and model of your vehicle and browse the selection of tires that we have in stock for your vehicle.

You'll also be able to see your exact out-the-door price without having to make any commitment toward purchasing or putting a deposit on a set of tires.

If you choose to purchase your tires directly from our tire shop, you'll enjoy the same transparency as you see online, except you'll also enjoy the expert advice of one of our service advisors, who can help you make the right decision for your budget and vehicle.

Does a car drive better after tire rotation?

After a tire rotation, you may notice improved handling from your vehicle. This is especially true if your newest tires, or the tires in best condition, are placed on the rear axle of your vehicle. However, it's important to note that a tire rotation will not fix any mechanical issues or remedy any tire problems.

A tire rotation will not fix any of the following:

  • Wheel misalignment
  • Unevenly worn tires
  • Vehicle vibration when driving at higher speeds
  • Slow-leaking tires

The purpose of a tire rotation is to promote even tire wear and prolong the life of your tires. Because some vehicles have different weight distributions between the front and rear axles, and because two-wheel drive vehicles often put greater stress on one set of wheels than the other, a tire rotation helps spread the load over all four tires.

How long does it take to balance a tire?

On average, balancing a tire can take anywhere between 30 minutes and two hours. This delicate process involves one of our ASE-certified mechanics installing counterweights weighing just a few grams on the sides of your tires. These featherweights can help offset the tiny manufacturing imperfections in your tires that cause vibrations in the cabin once you start driving.

After a tire balancing service, you should find that your vehicle operates much more smoothly when you’re driving on the road.

Should you repair a tire or replace it?

When your tire goes flat, it can be hard to determine whether it can be repaired or if it must be replaced. At Bruce's Tire & Auto Service, our ASE-certified mechanics can inspect your tire and determine whether or not we can repair it or if the tire must be replaced.

Types of Tire Damage That Can Be Repaired:

There are a few ways that you can determine if your tire will be salvageable. Your tire can be repaired if there is:

  • A hole in your tire tread that measures less than one inch in diameter
  • A defective valve stem
  • A leaking valve stem

Types of Damage That Cannot be Repaired:

Your tire may be far too damaged to restore if there is:

  • A cut or slice in your tire
  • Bubbles in the sidewall
  • A sidewall puncture
  • A blown-out tire
  • An unevenly worn tire
  • A tire with visible thread

If our San Jose mechanics determine that your tire cannot be repaired but must be replaced, our tire shop in San Jose is a phenomenal place to buy tires. We feature all of the leading tire brands as well as a wide selection of both foreign and domestic tires to meet the quality and value that you are looking for.

We also offer fantastic service coupons and tire deals to help you save money!
