Description of Tire Services

Tires are the connection between your vehicle and the surface of the road. A critical part of your vehicle’s suspension system, tires are responsible for transmitting the forces of driving, steering, and braking to the surface of the road.

Although tires are easily maintained, they are often overlooked. Several factors, such as the air inside your tires and the design of the tires, influence vehicle performance, tire tread life, and ride comfort.

Tire maintenance is vital for getting the most out of your tires by maximizing mileage and tread wear. Our staff will help you understand the basics of tire care and maintenance and can advise you on when to seek tire rotation, balance, and alignment.

Our staff can also teach you about tire sidewall markings, the best time to purchase a new set of tires, and how to choose the right set of tires for your vehicle.

Benefits of Tire Services

Premature tire wear is caused by poor tire inflation levels and improper tire rotation. Whereas correctly inflated tires tend to have durable sidewalls, underinflated tires often have flexible sidewalls that result in quicker wear. Overinflated tires are also undesirable and will result in excessive center tread wear.

Wheel balancing has the potential to relieve some symptoms of improper tire wear such as excessive lean. However, improper tire wear may also be the cause of alignment issues. During any tire repair service, our staff will be able to determine whether a tire balancing or rotation service could solve your current set of issues. Because tire inflation is so important, our staff will take care to follow the inflation standards recommended by the manufacturer during a new tire installation.

Overall, proper tire inflation can lead to reduced tread movement, increased water dissipation, reduced rolling resistance, proper traction, and adequate load-carrying capabilities. Our tire service work promotes better fuel economy and longer tread life.

Professional Tire Repair You Can Trust

A flat tire rarely occurs at a convenient time. However, we can help make the process as fast and easy as possible while performing proper tire repair that you can count on (as long as it is safe to repair the tire).

Our experienced mechanics routinely deal with tire leaks and/or punctures. If your flat tire can be repaired, we’ll repair it properly and ensure the tire repair meets the safety specifications outlined by the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA). This means you'll also save money on tire replacement.

Expert Tire Rotation Service

Routine tire rotation service is one of the easiest ways to help ensure even tire treadwear, extend your tires’ lifespan, and protect your investment.

During this service, depending on your vehicle and what movement was performed at your last rotation, the location of the tires is changed from front to back, one side to the other, or a combination of both. If you have a matching full-size spare tire, it may be worked into the tire rotation cycle as well.

What Happens During a Tire Rotation Service

During a tire rotation here at Bruce’s Tire & Automotive, your expert mechanic will do the following:

  • ● Rotate the tires in an alternating pattern
  • ● Examine the tread of the tires
  • ● Check the tires for any damage and examine their overall condition
  • ● Check the air pressure and adjust as needed
  • ● Tighten any loose wheel lug nuts

When to Have Tire Rotation Done

Because of their deeper tread, newer tires are more susceptible to uneven tread wear. So, for these tires, a professional tire rotation is recommended at the tires’ 5,000-mile mark. Past that, you should have a tire rotation done between every 5,000 to 7,000 miles. Depending on your specific vehicle, the type of tires, and your driving habits, this may need to be more or less often. A good habit to get into is having your tires rotated with every oil change.

Computerized Wheel/Tire Balancing Service

Weight imbalances in your wheel/tire assembly can easily be caused by everyday wear and normal tire manufacturing imperfections. If there is an imbalance, it can cause a vibration in the steering wheel, seat, or floorboard, especially at faster speeds. An out-of-balance tire can also wear faster or more unevenly, and you may also notice reduced gas mileage.

Tire balancing ensures that the weight is evenly distributed around the circumference of the wheel and tire assembly. In a sense, this service acts as a “tune-up” for your wheels. Even though it is a relatively easy service, it does require expert precision. But when the weight is properly distributed, your tires will roll more smoothly, wear more evenly, and last longer.

What Happens During a Tire Balancing Service

During a balancing service at Bruce’s Tire & Automotive, we will remove each of the wheel/tire assemblies and mount them one at a time on computerized balancing equipment. This allows us to pinpoint any imbalances and attach small lead weights to the wheel’s rim in precise spots to correct the imbalances. Then, the wheels/tires will be properly remounted on the vehicle.

When You Should Come in for Tire Balancing Service

Bring your vehicle to your closest Bruce’s Tire & Automotive location for tire balancing if:

  • ● A lead weight that was previously on the rim has fallen off.
  • ● There is a vibration in the steering wheel, seat, or floorboard.
  • ● You’ve noticed uneven tire tread wear, especially in a cupping pattern.
  • ● You get a tire repair done.
  • ● You have new tires installed.
  • ● Your tires have not been balanced in a while.

The balance on your tires should be checked at least every two years or annually if you drive on bumpy roads regularly. We often recommend having a tire balancing service at the same time as a tire rotation since the wheels/tires will already be removed from the vehicle.

The Condition of Your Tires Directly Impacts the Safety of Your Vehicle

Your vehicle’s tires play a critical role in ensuring your safety and the safety of your passengers while driving. That is why it is imperative to always keep your tires in optimal running condition.

However, normal wear and tear will still cause your tires to gradually wear down. This can be especially dangerous when trying to brake on wet roads and can cause the vehicle to lose control and hydroplane. Hydroplaning occurs when the grooves of the tire tread are so worn down that they don’t properly channel water out from beneath the tire. When this happens, the tread only skims the surface of the water and doesn’t actually make contact with the road. This means that you will not be able to properly control the vehicle by turning the steering wheel, causing an extremely dangerous scenario.

Regularly looking over your tires and keeping up with tire service, including tire rotation, tire balancing, wheel alignment service, and promptly replacing tires when needed, will help ensure that they are always in optimal condition for safe driving.

How to Determine if You Need New Tires

To determine if it is time for tire replacement, keep an eye out for a few things that would indicate a tire’s structural integrity and safety are jeopardized. These include:

  • ● The tire’s tread depth is less than 1/16 of an inch (1.6 millimeters).
  • ● You can see the tread wear indicator bar.
  • ● There are visible cracks or cuts on the tire’s sidewall.
  • ● There is a bulge or blister in the tire.

If you see any of the above, the tire should be checked and replaced ASAP. Here at Bruce’s Tire & Automotive, we carry a wide range of brand-name tires for all types of vehicles. Our tire experts can help match new high-quality tires to your vehicle and driving needs and then install/mount them properly.
